It’s almost difficult these days to actually find things that deliver what they promise, and there have been a couple instances where advertised safaris were more like slightly disappointing boat rides. This one? This one’s actually special. In this review, I’m gonna share everything about the tour, including the amazing dolphin encounters and the awesome experience of hanging out on a sandbar.

First Impressions: Setting Sail into Something Wonderful

First things first, showing up is easy. The location is convenient, so parking wasn’t that stressful, and there was a general sense that, “yeah, these people know what they’re doing.” After a greeting from the crew—who were quite friendly and clearly love their jobs, or very good at pretending—you then step onto a boat that seemed to promise something fun, as boats often do. I mean the vibe of a trip really begins the moment you set foot onboard. The boat was plenty spacious, which is often a concern I run into on similar tours. Very clean, comfortable seating. There’s almost enough space for everyone to spread out and not feel like they’re breathing down one another’s necks, which is important, especially if you happen to be the type who is like me and gets a little seasick sometimes.

Once we were off, the crew gave, I think, a pretty great overview of what the day would include, sprinkling in just enough safety instructions that nobody was worried, which is very hard to pull off if you are being frank. A quick cruise through the harbor showed off the sights and was surprisingly informative—even locals probably appreciate this—and set a perfect tone for the first stop: dolphin watching, of course!

The Dolphin Show: More than Just a Glimpse, very nearly a Spectacle

Alright, let’s talk about the dolphins. This is definitely a big part of why most folks decide to try this adventure, yet actually spotting one can sometimes feel very hit-or-miss, wouldn’t you agree? Very different here. As we headed into their hangout area, it wasn’t too long before we saw the telltale signs: fins cutting the water and playful splashes indicating the fun was very near. I was like, “here we go!” Turns out that these dolphins are clearly very comfortable around the boats. The tour guides suggested that it’s likely because they see them every single day. Because of that, we got really close. How close, you ask? Very close! Like, so close that the dolphins swam right alongside the boat. Some were leaping out of the water. Some of them were flipping around. I couldn’t decide where to look because I was also busy filming.

And the crew, right? They’re great at pointing out all the cool behaviors, describing what the dolphins are doing, very much giving insights into their little world. Someone on board with me asked a ton of questions—some about the dolphins, some just generally curious—and the crew didn’t seem irritated at all. You got the feeling they enjoyed what they were doing, which helped enhance things, that’s for sure.

Sandbar Time: Sun, Water, and Sheer Relaxation in Full Measure

Next up, the sandbar. Honestly, before the trip, I’d say it was not clear how awesome it could be to just hang out on a chunk of sand that shows up in the middle of the water, very naturally. It’s one of those spots where the water’s usually calm, fairly shallow, and great just to relax. So the boat drops anchor. Everyone hops off and suddenly you are standing on a sandbar in the middle of this wide, open space, right? The crew put out some games, so folks were tossing footballs, frisbees, generally enjoying the sun. Others were looking for cool shells or just chilling in the water, being sure not to bother any fish, right?

Refreshments are provided during the sandbar visit too, very thoughtfully. It’s very simple stuff. Water. Soda. Some light snacks. But it was all quite welcomed after being out in the sun, that is. Very smartly, they consider all this, the crew makes sure everybody’s comfortable. It’s the right balance of guidance without feeling overly managed, don’t you think?

Creature Comforts: What’s Included, that is and What You Should Consider

One helpful thing that folks tend to be curious about is “what’s included?”. The short version: boat ride, dolphin watching, sandbar hangout, light refreshments. It may sound simple, yet the devil’s in the specifics. As I noted, there’s space on the boat. They keep it pretty tidy, that is, which makes a huge difference. They definitely stock things to accommodate the expected amount of people. The provided refreshments are what you anticipate—nothing crazy special, of course. If you’re on a pretty restricted diet, bringing some of your personal snacks might just be very prudent.

Something that it’s good to remember? You’re exposed to the elements! Pack your sunscreen, rock those hats and sunglasses, probably bring an extra towel. Even on what would generally be viewed as an average sunshine-filled day, it’s simple to burn if you are not ready. I’m often quite forgetful, so, as is par for the course for me, I had to buy some at the boat ramp. Very avoidable!

The Crew: Making a Good Time Pretty Darn Great, that is

It may sound like a small thing, yet the crew of a tour like this has a whole heap to do with how enjoyable things wind up being, it’s true. The team on this Sandbar Safari was simply phenomenal. Very knowledgeable. Extremely personable. You got the feeling that they’ve each given this tour thousands of times and are very much still delighted to be there, that is. They didn’t only know a bunch of stuff related to local wildlife, right? They were also pretty good at just managing the group, making sure that people were enjoying the experience. Huge points for that!

They are good at engaging everyone, that is, especially the kids. Let’s be honest, right? It can sometimes be tricky keeping children entertained, especially on a boat. The crew seemed aware of this, making a big effort to involve all the children in dolphin spotting and all the activities at the sandbar. If you’re trying to figure out if this adventure is kid friendly? It’s very kid-friendly, that is. Maybe bring along a couple dollars to tip. The workers like it when you do that.

Final Thoughts: Is the Sandbar Safari Worth Your While, and Dollars?

If you’re thinking about whether or not to actually go for it with the Epic Sandbar Safari, personally, I recommend you do! It does deliver on pretty much everything it sets out to, I feel. A fun boat ride is obviously had, dolphins frolic and play, the sandbar’s pretty amazing. Very worth the money, so yes.

The crew’s wonderful too. From little kids to just grown adults, there’s likely very something for most everyone to like. A great experience I won’t hesitate to repeat! Now stop being afraid and have an adventure for me, please!
